Bike Riding and Typhoons

I’m feeling sad. Don’t ask why, because I wouldn’t be able to pinpoint what exactly. Perhaps it is a mixture of everything! And it is times like these where a semi-lactose-intolerant person says, ‘stuff it, I’m going to have an ice-

cream!’ And boy, was it good!

On a more brighter and interesting note, I wanted to share more of my experiences of bike riding. I feel I’m starting to get the hang of this ‘bike riding’ thing. That is until I watch the locals. While I am here, holding both handle bars and looking straight ahead (any slight movement appears to send me way off!), other Soja-folk seem to be practicing for the circus! I’ve seen some holding an umbrella while riding (not an easy thing to do, as I found out the other day!), some texting or answering a phone call while riding, and then I even saw an older lady answering her phone all while holding an umbrella! She wasn’t even holding the handle bars!!!

It seems I am far from reaching ‘bike-master’ stage. Hopefully, with more practice I’ll eventually master the umbrella hold. In the meantime, everyone is going to have to put up with a very ‘interesting-looking’ Jess.

This weekend also brought about my first typhoon experience. Watching the news, I became very anxious. Only being able to understand half of what is being said, all I knew was the typhoon was bound to hit Okayama prefecture on Saturday night/ Sunday morning. However, I had no idea how hard it would hit my own city.

Well it would seem that Soja was almost forgotten by Mother Nature as the typhoon passed through! In comparison to images I’ve seen from around other cities of Okayama, Soja looks untouched. I hope that everyone I know is safe and have had the same fortune as me!

Tomorrow, I have Okayama Orientation. I’ll even have a roomie for one night! That should help pick up my spirits :)

Until then, matta ne!
